More About TCL and Transition

'Transition City LANCASTER' is our name yet the City and the Lune valley and coast are all so connected - don't be put off! Everyone is very welcome at our events and we'll also be very glad to support any new emerging transition villages out there that want to get going . . . . we can offer films, speakers and all sorts . . . .

Transition City Lancaster Film Premier

TCL is delighted to report that the premier of the Transition City Lancaster: Unleashing film, at the Dukes Theatre Gallery Room on Thursday 21st April, was a resounding success.
A stunning piece of work made by local film maker Mark Rotherham. The film starts with a moving vision of Lancaster in 2030. It then builds on Rob Hopkins presentation on Peak Oil, Climate change and Transition with an inspiring and creative flare that compliments Rob's sincere and heartfelt journey through the challenges ahead.
The film skilfully illuminates the issues with clever and amusing use of animation sequences and some wonderful footage of Lancaster old, new and yet to come.
A truly inspiring piece of work which we hope will be available on DVD soon! For now I've kept the short preview below to whet your appetite.

TCL AGM

It was the hope of the TCL steering group that the AGM be a celebration of all the amazing events, activities and projects that have been created over the last 18 months. This hope was more than realised! After the business the evening was spent eating wonderful food, sharing thoughts of what we've enjoyed over the last year and thinking about what we want to create in the coming year. . Click here for the full AGM story and pictures.

Transition Timelines, EDAPs and Community Conversations - what's it all about?

If Lancaster is going to be a vibrant, resilient, enjoyable place to live in 5,10 or 20 years time – able to feed, house and keep ourselves warm, it is essential we start working towards it NOW (to read more on why click here)

There's already a host of inspired groups and projects up and running in Lancaster but we need LOTS more and LOTS more people involved in working out how this could happen. It's about community action and NOT AT ALL about waiting for the government/someone else to sort it out.

One way that other transition initiatives internationally have gone about this is to create a local EDAP - this stands for Energy Descent Action Plan. Quite a mouthfull - we can think up something better. One that draws out the joys of a local resilient community rather than yet more descending and austerity. TCL firmly believes that a low carbon Lancaster can be a far better and more enjoyable place to be than our present hectic, girdlocked, junk food lifestyles . .

Transition does not work with 'blueprints' or master plans. It works thru the ideas and contributions of local people. Creating visions for how great this City could be in 20/30 years time and then working out the steps to get there.

Creating these visions and plans will need all sorts of different approaches and projects. If you'd like to be involved in any way in reaching out to the wider community . . . . . just drop us a line info@transitioncitylancaster.org and watch this space as initiative start to take shape to take it all forward.

Here at TCL we are in the early stages of bringing together as many people as possible to share their views, their dreams and their genius. You can
Read the online record so far here in PDF (Laste Updated 30/06/2010) and make your comment on our Facebook site or email your comments to info@transitioncitylancaster.org

• Look out for an EDAP consultation meeting in your locality during 2010/11

Community Conversations

One of the initiatives we hope will take shape in 2011 is about 'community conversations'. A TCL group has now held a couple of meetings to explore how to create community conversations around the core issues of Transition and energy decent action planning locally. The notes from the first workshop can be viewed here in PDF format. An example of community conversations in action in Bristol can be found here

TCL Events

Congratulations to everyone for all the amazing events that have happened and that are planned. For full details keep checking the Whats On Page and TCL Facebook page for all the details.
