Whats it's all about . . . .

In transition we are trying to rebuild and inspire resilience in our community. To this end we have interest groups who develop projects and strengthen connections with other similar groups in the community.

The Deep Ecology group is a place where we strengthen our own resilience. It helps prevent burnout and deepens the sense of connection between individuals. It is a place to let off steam, to be heard and to find and give comfort. It strengthens and inspires.

Underlying the work is an assumption that we are all connected to each other and our environment, so we can all respond individually in a way that will help the whole. It helps us move from ‘I can’t’ to ‘We can’, thus releasing our creativity and passion for change. It is a place where we are not seeking specific solutions but somewhere to develop a sense of common purpose and connection.

Initially inspired by the work of Joanna Macy the group is the longest running Transition group . It started in October 2007 and it was from this group that the original TCL Steering group formed.

Each session is either led by someone in the group who has volunteered on a pre-arranged basis, or is a ‘Jacob’s Join’ where we all bring along exercises, readings, meditations or anything relevant we’d like to share with group. It is not a personal therapy gathering, though feelings are allowed and we all participate in exploring the issues. The group is an ongoing creative exploration into the process of Transition and the role of the psyche in preventing or facilitating change. There is a warm atmosphere, and often a sense of fun
.
The group is open, which means people can come along for a taster, or become regular attenders. If you want to come along, just turn up, you’ll be very welcome. However, at the request of the caretaker of the Meeting House, we do have to lock the outside door so come on time, or warn someone in the group to expect you as we use an upstairs room and can’t hear anyone knocking.
The room is paid for by occasional requests for donations, which seem to work. We have been going for over three years. Membership varies quite a lot, with some ‘old timers’ and some new people who are giving it a try.
