Information on Biogas Digesters

Our research is at a very early stage but here's some information links that we have so far uncovered to help inform thinking and project development.

The Anaerobic Digestion Web Site

Focusing on Biogas Digesters this web site says it is:

"Your source on the web for supplier independent information on the Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Process, and related subjects. We primarily cover AD as used for domestic, commercial and industrial waste processing, plus news and resources" http://www.anaerobic-digestion.com/.

I can't claim to have investigated this resource in depth yet but there is a lot of very useful information here. The site tries to provide information for every one from the complete novice to the professional looking for technical details. They provide a free book on the subject " Biogas Methane Explained & Other Articles" and a resonably priced book "Anaerobic Digestion Plant Feasibility Studies" both by Steve Last. click herer to see full details.

The following Information has been supplied by:

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT). .

CAT report on "Biogas use in developing countries and the UK".

Ludlow Biogas DigesterThere is currently one community-scale biogas digester (right) for
processing household kitchen waste in the UK, it is located in Ludlow,
Shropshire, and operated by Greenfinch (http://www.greenfinch.co.uk/), which
has recently been acquired by Biogen UK.

The Wales Centre of Excellence for Anaerobic Digestion (the technical term
for biogas production), http://www.walesadcentre.org.uk/, has compiled a
very useful document about the Ludlow plant, see:
http://www.walesadcentre.org.uk/Controls/Document/Docs/Ludlow_comp__F.pdf

An important factor for the economic viability of biogas plants in the UK
will be the fact that, from April 2009 onwards, double Renewable Obligation
Credits (ROCs) will be awarded to renewable energy from biogas - this will
give a significant boost to biogas use in the UK, see:
http://www.biomassmagazine.com/article.jsp?article_id=2619

An organization which should be able to support us in developing the project for an anaerobic biogas digester is the Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP, see http://www.wrap.org.uk/. They also run courses on biogas technology).
