Steering Group

Having sucessfully 'steered' TCL thru the creation of the groups and thru the launch in April . . . . the original steering group/co founders are currently in dialogue with the active groups about the groups selecting new delegates/membership for the Steering gp from this autumn. The steering group exists at the centre of the honeycomb connecting TCL with the wider transition network. Our core aims are:

 

  • Connecting and supporting the special interest groups to develop initiatives and projects

 

  • Linking the groups with one another

 

  • Initiating new interest groups where gaps exist

 

  • Connecting in as many new people as possible through events, projects and the web pages – maintaining the membership database

 

  • Holding the TCL vision

 

  • Ensuring all groups and projects are based in a resilient local response to peak oil and climate change

 

  • Developing TCL overview - strategies, priorities and the Great Unleashing

 

  • Creating the Lancaster Energy Descent Plan

 

  • Making bids for funding for the Lancaster network as a whole, holding the TCL bank account and keeping accounts

 

  • Developing the TCL Constitution and ensuring AGMs etc

 

  • Providing training and networking events, web site and newsletter

 

  • Agreeing TCL affiliation to any other local or national organisations

 

  • Making it all fun and enjoyable and sustainable.

 

Here in Lancaster our steering group came together in April 2008. The membership from then to the current time is Cherith Adams, Chris Hart, Gail Capstick, Margaret Lyth, Paul Martyn, Ralph Martyn, Samagita Moisha, Steve Jenkins.

 

Membership of the steering group will change over time at the AGMs which will start to roll after the big public unleashing event in April 2010. At AGM's some current members will stand down and others will be elected. New steering group members from now until the first AGM may be added by the co-option of additional people as the need arises.

 

The essential nature of all local transition initiatives is to be expansive, inclusive and highly creative. As a steering group we wish to catalyse a strong flow of ideas and projects. We meet on the first second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. We have drawn up a constitution which we hope gives an indication of the organisation and will provide accountability. You can view this here. In June '10 we also adopted an Equal opportunities policy - you can see this by clicking here.
