Kids - the ignorance of food

These are TEDx talks via podcast. Message from The Storey -
'Come and join us in The Storey Lecture Theatre with world-class guest speakers, discussing contemporary issues that affect us all. Why not join in the debate and have your say on each different monthly topic. Our TEDx talks will offer free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and will combine a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.
This months topic will be and will feature podcast talks from Ann Cooper and Jamie Oliver, discussing “Kids: The ignorance of food”
The Two Guest Podcast Speakers:
Speaking at the 2007 EG conference, "renegade lunch lady" Ann Cooper talks about the coming revolution in the way kids eat at school -- local, sustainable, seasonal and even educational food.
Sharing powerful stories from his anti-obesity project in Huntington, W. Va., TED Prize winner Jamie Oliver makes the case for an all-out assault on our ignorance of food.'

Bicycle Politics - Symposium and workshop

Open Afternoon at Ridge Community Allotments
Local food fortnight event
Saturday 18th Sept - 2-4pm
Lancaster's very exciting brand new community allotment site. This is an opportunity to visit the 'off the ground' site, meet project staff and join a tour of whats going on there at 2.30 and at 3.30.
The allotments are oppostite nos 176 - 192 Ambleside Rd on the Ridge estate.

'Sow, Grow,Bake & Make Show'
Lancaster Royal Grammer School
Sunday 19th Sept - Open to the public 10.00am - 4.00pm
This is a one day event promoting the value of traditional domestic
skills. There will be a range of stalls offering produce and advice
for a more
self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle. All day tea room selling
homemade cakes, tea and coffee.
Sunday 19th September the Main
Hall Lancaster Royal Grammer School. Entrance fee adults by way
of a donation to raise money for RLGS and Fairfield Association.
Apple Day at Fairfiled Community Orchard

Apple Day is a celebration of Fairfield community’s Millennium
Orchard with apple games, storytelling, orchard walks, carving demonstration,
baking competition for adults (13+) of best apple pie; for children - best
apple pasty, woodwork stall by Workspace clients, refreshments and orchard
produce. Seek the Orchard Star with Inspector Clueless.

EVENING - To top off the celebration there is to be a concert of appley
songs and readings in Ashton Memorial, Lancaster with wine and nibbles

Cesagen Public Lecture with Professor Tim Lang - rescheduled date
The Cesagen public lecture which was postponed in the spring has
now
been re-scheduled and will take place in the Banqueting Suite at
Lancaster Town Hall on the evening of 14th October 2010.
